When The Levee Breaks

"If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
And the water gonna come in, have no place to stay
Well all last night I sat on the levee and moan
Well all last night I sat on the levee and moan
Thinkin' 'bout my baby and my happy home
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
And all these people have no place to stay."
-Memphis Minnie, 1929

Thanks for the site, I've added my mom to it. Still no word on her or my little brother. last I heard she was heading to a shelter in or around Pearlington, right in the path of the storm.

a site they've been advertising on the radio here (pcola) and in Mobile is findkatrina.com. It doesn't have too many entries on it yet, but it may help...

I've got family in New Orleans, lots in Slidell, and my mom and little brother are in Pearlington MS.

I heard Slidell was gone. It's a relief to hear not.

Although much of my family is in trailers. Fuck.

Where in the city does your family live? I know Slidell is beginning to look better, the water is finally running off. I am confident that 3000 lb bags of sand will help cap the levee... channel 4 is broadcasting on the internet now (wwltv.com) but i wouldn't watch it too much, it's just holding me captivated for too long.

Siege, the hardest part of waiting on God is the last 30 minutes. No news is sometimes good news .Breathe man, you can't change a thing right now. We are all with you.

No news yet. I'm going mad. I'm shooting fashion today in a big fancy studio and I'm sick to my stomach.

Yes, the old songs. Our own Old Testament, substituting life and circumstance for angy old Jehovah, but giving us the strength and solace of empathy across the decades and generations... 'cause Internet or no, and no matter who the President happens to be, or in what god you believe, catastrophe tastes the same.... and we've always had to learn to survive, after the tears. And tell our version of the pain and redemption, to pass along the love.

" I got a cravin' love for blazing speed
Got a hopped up Mustang Ford
Jump into the wagon, love, throw your panties overboard
I can write you poems, make a strong man lose his mind
I'm no pig without a wig
I hope you treat me kind
Things are breakin' up out there
High water everywhere

High water risin', six inches 'bove my head
Coffins droppin' in the street
Like balloons made out of lead
Water pourin' into Vicksburg, don't know what I'm going to do
"Don't reach out for me," she said
"Can't you see I'm drownin' too?"
It's rough out there
High water everywhere"
—Dylan, "High Water"

After 9/11 I pretty much only listened to Dylan, Muddy, Miles and their ilk, over and over, til the scabs dropped away. Scars remain.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.
